Community Health Sciences
I am a Public Health researcher and a teacher at Aga Khan University Karachi Pakistan. I have MD, MSc and PhD degrees. I was trained as a Public Health person with special focus on epidemiology and Biostatistics in my master’s training (MSc epidemiology and Biostatistics in 2007). Over the period, however, have become more of a social and behavioural scientist with experience in public health research, health behaviour, sexual and reproductive health, and qualitative and mixed methods research methodologies. My motivation for behavioral research began when I conducted research on sexual and gender minorities and people living with HIV. Now the focus of interest is more on understanding and addressing stigma and discrimination as this minority relate to a variety of health conditions/services, and I intend to incorporate qualitative research methods in the context of rigorous mixed methods research designs in all of my future research projects. My aim is to figure out a better way to conduct research that reflects experiences of the vulnerable sub-groups with the ultimate hope to contribute to a sustainable change in terms of furthering human rights and social justice.
