Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London Centre for Cancer Prevention
Jack Cuzick is the John Snow Professor of Epidemiology at Queen Mary University of London. He holds a PhD in Mathematics and has previously worked at Oxford University and Columbia University, New York. His current interests are in prevention and screening. He has a long standing interest in the role of HPV in cervical cancer screening and prevention and conducted the first study of HPV testing as part of cervical screening He also lead the Predictors studies, comparing a range of HPV tests on the same sample, His current interests have focussed on the role of self-sampling for HPV as the primary screening test. He was the first to report the effect of tamoxifen on contralateral tumours as an indicator of its potential chemopreventive role, and also has demonstrated that a change in mammographic breast density on endocrine treatment is a biomarker for its effectiveness. In the IBIS-I trial he recently demonstrated that the preventive effect of 5 years of tamoxifen lasts for at least 20 years. He was awarded CBE in 2017, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society, Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Statistical Society.
