Vincent R. Bonagura, MD, is Chief of Allergy and Immunology in the Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at Northwell Health. He is the Jack Hausman Professor of Pediatrics at the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York in Northwell Health. He also is Vice Chair for Academic Affairs of the Department of Pediatrics, and is Professor of Molecular Medicine at the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine in Long Island. Dr. Bonagura received his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York, where he also completed a residency in Pediatrics, postgraduate training in Immunology Research, a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology, and postdoctoral training in Immunogenetics. Dr. Bonagura became Chief of Allergy and Immunology at the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York (previously Schneider Children’s Hospital) in 1985. He is board-certified in Pediatrics, Allergy and Immunology, and Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology. Dr. Bonagura is the present Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Immunology, the official journal of the Clinical Immunology Society. He has served as a Director of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology for 10 years and as a member of the American Board of Pediatrics for 6 years. He was also a member and past Vice-Chair of the Residency Review Committee for Allergy & Immunology for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education for 6 years. He has been the principal investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health (NIH), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and New York State basic and clinical science research grants. Dr. Bonagura is currently the principal investigator on a continuing R01 from NIDCR and was the PI of an Immunology Physician Scientist T32 Training grant from the NIAID. Dr. Bonagura has lectured nationally and internationally on his research interest in host defense against chronic viral infections, specifically HPV6/11 infection of the upper respiratory tract, and the diagnosis and treatment and children and adults with primary and secondary immunodeficiency disease. He has published more than 150 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals on a variety of topics including primary immunodeficiency disease.
