Medicine
My primary interests have included understanding the epidemiology and pathology of TB-HIV co-infection through building, studying, and evaluating a cohort of patients in a health care clinic in Zambia and in prisons populations. In 2015 I was appointed Director of the Gorgas Course in Clinical Tropical Medicine, which is a collaboration between UAB and Cayetano Heredia University, taught entirely in Peru, and it had trained more than 1050 physicians over the last 20 years. As a Peruvian citizen I understand the challenges and barriers to successfully implement and establish research and or educational programs in developing countries. Im 2021 I served as President of the American Committee on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
