Session Description
ConformalFLASH®: go deeper, faster, and sharper with protons - Industry Symposium Supported by IBASession Description: FLASH is probably the most promising research topic in radiotherapy. At IBA, we believe that ConformalFLASH® is the best way to do FLASH. By choosing protons and placing the Bragg Peak inside the tumor, the dose can be delivered deeper than with electrons, faster than with LINAC-photons, and with a sharper distal fall-off than shoot-through FLASH. In proton therapy, a high dose rate can be achieved using a monoenergetic pencil beam by scanning it in the transversal plane with two scanning magnets. To achieve ConformalFLASH®, the proton pencil beam is passed through a range shifter to set the beam’s maximum range and through a spatially non-uniform ridge filter (the ConformalFLASH Energy Modulator, CEM) to create a spread-out Bragg Peak. Join our session, where we will present the practical implementation of the complete workflow to deliver ConformalFLASH®: the treatment planning using RayStation, the 3D printing of the CEM, the installation of the CEM in the Proteus treatment machine, the high-intensity beam delivery and control, and the QA of the dose and dose rate using MyQAIon software.
