CHUV Infectious Diseases
I am a clinician and researcher at the infectious diseases service of the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland. I am trained as a physician in internal medicine and in infectious diseases. I did my PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Basel in 2015 on a topic of high public health relevance: the comorbidity between communicable and non-communicable diseases, specifically tuberculosis and diabetes in urban Tanzania. In parallel, to address the global problem of antibiotic overuse and resistance, I conducted studies on the diagnostic approach and management of outpatients with fever and especially those with acute respiratory infections in Tanzania and Switzerland. I am particularly interested in the use of novel diagnostic tool at the point-of-care to optimize patients triage and antibiotic use. I studied host biomarkers, molecular panels and lung ultrasound in patients with lower respiratory infections in emergency departments and primary care. I am interested to find optimal combination of these diagnostic and prognostic tools in algorithm with the support of artificial intelligence. In the future, I will continue with projects targeting community-acquired infections, particularly lower respiratory tract infections in low and high income countries, beginning with cohort and intervention studies leading to implementation and dissemination of knowledge.
