Prof. Gehring did his specialization in Pediatric Medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. After a research residence at the Liver Research Center der Brown University, Providence, RI, USA from 2002-2005 he returned to the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz for further specialization in Pediatric Intensive Care and Pediatric Gastroenterology (2005-2009) and habilitation in the same year. Today Prof. Gehring is the heading the department of Pediatric Gastroenterology / Hepatology as well as the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the University Hospital Mainz.
