Michael Buettcher (Switzerland)

Michael Buettcher was raised and schooled in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his undergraduate training at the Justus-Liebig University Giessen, Germany and later his dissertation at the University of Basel, Switzerland. He was trained in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the University Children’s Hospitals Basel and Bern and completed a fellowship at at St George’s University Hospital in London. He works as PID consultant at the Lucerne Children’s Hospital leading the clinical service at this tertiary and University Lucerne/ Zurich affiliated hospital. He is the local research coordinator of the Swiss Pediatric Research Network (SwissPedNet) and also part of the expert committee for antimicrobials for the national SwissPedDose Project (Swiss Database for Dosing Medicinal Products in Pediatrics). He holds a research post at the Department of Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology at the University Children’s Hospital Basel (UKBB). He is a member of the ESPID Committee for Education. His main interests in PID are travel-related and emerging infections, neglected tropical diseases and optimizing and extending the use of old and new antimicrobials and antiparasitics in children.
