Medical University of Innsbruck
Department of Pediatrics I
I have been a paediatric gastroenterologist and hepatologist since 2002. My scientific focus is on the genetics and pathomechanism of rare diseases in paediatric gastroenterology and hepatology such as congenital diarrheas and inherited liver diseases. Our research group was privileged to be the first to identify the gene defects for microvillus inclusion disease (i.e. Myosin Vb, Syntaxin-3) and various forms of congenital sodium diarrhea (i.e. NHE3, SPINT2, GUCY2C, AP1S1). Since 2017, I am Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Department of Pediatrics I at the Medical University of Innsbruck. Currently we are the only centre for liver transplantation in children in Austria.
