Associate Professor of Pediatrics Jernej Dolinšek, MD, PhD is currently serving as a head of the Pediatric Department at the University Medical Center Maribor. He is a part of the Gastroenterology Unit since 1996. His major clinical and research focus are gluten related disorders especially celiac disease. He spent valuable time in Tampere, Finland with the research group of Prof. Markku Mäki. In 2003 he defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Ljubljana focusing on apoptotic processes in celiac disease. He is a co-author of ESPGHAN guidelines on celiac disease diagnosis (2020), ESPGHAN position statement on celiac disease management (2022), Guidelines on diagnosis of Dermatitis herpetiformis (2021) and Salerno criteria for diagnosing Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (2015). He has been actively collaborating in several international projects mainly focusing on celiac disease including CD-MEDICS, LQ-CELIAC, Focus IN CD, CD SKILLS and is coordinating an ESPGHAN working group CD in FOCUS. He has been a guest speaker at many international events. He is a member of Slovene celiac disease society Executive board and was its president for one mandate. He is a vice-president of Slovene Pediatric Gastroenterology Society, a member of Slovene Pediatric Association Executive Board and a member of Pediatric Advisory Board at the Ministry of Health of Republic of Slovenia. He is currently a member of ESPGHAN Council serving as a chair of Gastroenterology Committee, member of ESPGHAN Scientific Committee and Research Task Force and also a member of ESPGHAN Coeliac Disease Special Interest Group, and a member of YIF faculty. He served as ESPGHAN International Affairs Representative (2014-2017). He is happily married and has two wonderful children.
