I am particularly interested in study the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene and how malfunction of this gene cause organ-specific autoimmune disease. I am particularly fascinated by the thymus microenvironment and its essential function in establishing immunologic tolerance, and how this is broken in patients with organ specific autoimmune diseases.
