Great Ormond Street Hospital
Immunology and Gene Therapy
I have been a full-time consultant in Paediatric Immunology at Great Ormond Street Hospital since 2013. As one of the busiest Paediatric Immunology and Stem Cell Transplant centres in Europe we manage over 850 active patients with inborn errors of immunity, and I lead treatment for over 250 patients with Primary Immunodeficiency. I am clinical lead for the thymic transplant service, one of two centres in the world which perform this procedure. I am chair of the hospital Drugs and Therapeutics committee. My doctoral and post-doctoral research investigated the molecular pathophysiology of Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome. Specifically, I further elucidated the defects seen in dendritic cell polarisation and migration, and broadened our understanding of the molecular basis of the genotype – phenotype correlation in this disease. This work has also provided important insights into the mechanisms of initiation of cell migration. In recent years, I have developed several areas of clinical research. Specific areas of interest include thymic transplantation, EBV infection in immunodeficienct hosts, XIAP deficiency, DNA Ligase 1 deficiency, primary immunedysregulatory disorders and their treatment, and primary immunodeficiency associated with inflammatory bowel disease. I am Principal Investigator on 4 multicentre, externally sponsored clinical trials, and am supervisor for 2 PhD students.
