EE-130 - MR Enterography Made Easy: A systematic approach to MR enterography in Crohn’s Disease

Abstract

Objectives

Develop a systematic approach to reporting MR enterography in Crohn’s disease

Understand the nomenclature in reporting and correlate with imaging and endoscopic imaging

Understand the role of imaging in aiding clinical management

Appreciate the pearls and recognize the pitfalls in interpretation

Background

MR enterography is an adjunctive non-invasive investigation for diagnosis and staging of Crohn’s Disease (CD). MRI is excellent for identifying disease activity, characterizing strictures and determining the length and segment of involved small bowel. This allows assessment of treatment response and the need for surgical management. This pictorial guide aims to support radiologists by providing a systematic approach to reading MRE with imaging explanations.

Imaging findings OR Procedure findings

We describe features which will assist in interpreting the severity of small bowel inflammation; including features which will allow stratification of mild, moderate or severe inflammation.

We describe the definition of strictures from a radiological and clinical perspective; and complications associated with penetrating disease.

We will present several clinical cases with radiological and endoscopic correlation.

Conclusion

An accurate understanding and interpretation of the MRI findings together with consistent terminology in the radiological reports will assist the clinician in accurate treatment planning and management; and facilitate monitoring of disease activity.
