Marco Sarchiapone, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Molise, Italy. He is the Co-Chairman of the Section of Suicidology and Suicide Prevention of the European Psychiatric Association (www.suicidologysection.org), member of the Section of Suicide of the World Psychiatric Association, member of the International Academy of Suicide Research, member of the Task Force of Genetic of Suicide of the World Federation of the Biological Society of Psychiatry, member of the International association of Suicide Prevention, member of the European Brain Council –Suicide Prevention Working Group-, member of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) - Suicide Network and the ECNP - European Unified Suicide Prevention Platform (EUSPP). He is the Editor in chief of the open access journal Suicidology Online (www.suicidology-online.com) and associate editor of BMC Psychiatry. He published more than 100 scientific papers on the most important Scientific Medical Journal (lancet) and his h-Index is 48. He has been involved in research in the field of Suicidology for more than 30 years. His main research interests include the genetic and neurobiological correlates of depression and suicide, the role of childhood trauma and impulsiveness as risk factors for suicide, suicidal behaviour among inmates, suicide prevention and mental health promotion among adolescents, development of best practices in suicide prevention and treatment of the suicidal patient. He was deputy coordinator of SEYLE (Saving and Empowering Young Lives in Europe) and WE-STAY (Working in Europe to Stop Truancy Among Youth), two research projects funded under the EU 7th Framework Programme and aimed at preventing suicide and risk behaviours among adolescents. He was also site leader of SUPREME (Suicide Prevention by Internet and Media Based Mental Health Promotion), funded by the European Agency for Health and Consumers, and of the project Monitoring Suicide in Europe (MONSUE). He is UNICEF Consultant in Kazakhstan for suicide prevention among adolescents since 2012 and he is providing technical assistance to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and local governments of Kyzylorda and Mangistau in prevention of suicides among adolescents. In Italy, he has been responsible for a large research project on psychological and genetic factors associated to violence and self-harm behaviour in prisoners. He is also the Scientific Coordinator of the EUDOR-A Multi-centre Research Program - A Naturalistic, European Multi-centre Clinical Study of EDOR Test in adult patients with primary depression.
