Nephrology
Luísa Lobato is senior nephrologist at Hospital de Santo António, Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto (CHUP) and full professor of Nephrology at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS), University of Porto, Portugal. She coordinates the Nephrology outpatient clinic of Unidade Corino de Andrade of CHUP, the local unit dedicated to the study and clinical support of hereditary amyloidosis. Luísa Lobato is director of the Clinical Trials Unit of CHUP and Vice-coordinator of the Unit for Multidisciplinary Research in Biomedicine (UMIB) of ICBAS, establishing the connection of scientific developments into clinics, relying on a robust hospital infrastructure. Luísa Lobato represents CHUP at PtCRIN, Portuguese Clinical Research Infrastructure Network, a distributed RI, the national node of ECRIN ERIC. Her main research interests are hereditary amyloidoses, especially the forms associated to transthyretin and fibrinogen. Her activity comprises histopathology, clinical features and renal therapy for amyloidosis, including dialysis, kidney and liver transplantation. Major research outputs are related with ATTR amyloidosis, focusing its epidemiology, genotypic-phenotypic correlations and early markers of nephropathy. Her recent studies rely on real life effects of anti-amyloid therapy on ATTR kidney disease phenotype.
