In 2019, he published in the British Medical Journal a study that, after evaluating nearly twenty thousand participants, concluded that increased consumption of ultra-processed foods leads to an increased risk of mortality.9 In 2016 he taught the 42 Rankin-Skatrud lecture (Univ. of Wisconsin). In September 2016, he was appointed Visiting Professor (Adjunct Professor) of the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. He is the lead co-investigator with Frank B. Hu of three US National Institutes of Health (NIH) research projects on Mediterranean Diet and Metabolism In 2019 he spoke to chefs and cooks from the large American hotel complexes and restaurants about the Mediterranean diet at the Culinary Institute of America with Walter Willett, the U.S. government's leading advisor on nutritional issues.
