Elina Ikonen, Finland

University of Helsinki Medicum, Faculty of Medicine
Professor Elina Ikonen, MD PhD, leads the Lipid Trafficking Lab at the Stem Cells and Metabolism Research Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/lipid-trafficking-lab) and is affiliated with the Minerva Foundation Institute for Medical Research, Helsinki, Finland. Elina Ikonen is a Fellow at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-life-science), Director of the Biomedicum Imaging Unit, Chair of the HiLIFE BioImaging platform and EMBO member. Her group investigates the mechanisms underlying cellular lipid trafficking and distribution, with relevance for human disorders of lipid imbalance. To this aim, the group develops and employs novel technologies for manipulating and detecting lipids, e.g. using rapid depletion of endogenous cellular lipid-interacting proteins and cellular lipid detection using imaging and click chemistry.
