• Full Professor of Rheumatology and Director of the post-graduate School of Rheumatology, at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. • Head of Rheumatology Unit at AOU Policlinico Umberto I University Hospital, Rome, Italy. • Council member of the Italian Society of Rheumatology (SIR). • Member of the Standing Committee for the study of biological treatments in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (LIRE) of the Italian Society of Rheumatology (SIR), member of the Standing Committee for the study of neuropsychiatric lupus of SIR, and member of the Standing Committee for the study of Anti-phospholipid Syndrome (APS) of SIR. Author of about 300 ISI publications. Research has focused on ethiopathogenesis, clinical features and treatment of antiphospholipid syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Wide experience on clinical studies (phases II and III) carried out using new biological drugs. Principal investigator in several clinical studies (phase II and III) carried out using new biological products. He organized several congresses on autoimmune rheumatic diseases. In 2008 he established the “Sapienza Lupus Clinic”. Currently, more than 1000 SLE out-patients are followed-up.
