Luis Andrade is currently Professor of the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, at the Federal University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. He received his M.D. degree from Federal University of Minas Gerais and his Ph.D. degree in Rheumatology from Escola Paulista de Medicina, both in Brazil. He received his post-doctoral degree in the field of molecular and cellular biology of autoantibodies from the Scripps Research Institute in the USA under supervising of Professor Eng M. Tan. Luis Andrade is the Chair of the IUIS Quality and Assessment Committee (https://iuis.org/committees/qas/members/), Member of the Laboratory Advisory Board of the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology and Co-coordinator (with Professor Edward Chan) of the ICAP (International Consensus on ANA Patterns). He is a former Chair of the Autoantibody Standardizing Subcommittee (www.autoab.org) affiliated with the IUIS and member of the American College of Rheumatology, the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology and the Brazilian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He serves in the editorial board of a variety of journals in the area of autoimmunity and rheumatology. His research interests have focused on studies on the fields of autoantibodies, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, capillaroscopy, and molecular biology of autoantigens and autoimmune rheumatic diseases. More recently, he concentrates on the fields of autoantibody testing and standardization as well as the interface between autoimmunity and immunodeficiency.
