HEAL.med CIC
The Innovation Centre
Lee Paxman-Clarke is the co-founder and director of HEAL.med CIC, a not-for-profit social enterprise based in the UK. Lee was part of the design and research team at De Montfort University that helped to create the pilot of Deapp (The Diabetes Education App) alongside staff at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. His background in design, research and academia helped to develop the ideas and concepts from healthcare professionals, as part of a collaborative and iterative process with the NHS team. Since spinning out the project and founding HEAL.med CIC, the team has won several awards in diabetes education and innovation. In 2022 Lee was the winner of the Innovation in Entrepreneurship Award at the Real Entrepreneur Awards and the HEAL.med team picked up a QiC award at the Sanofi UK headquarters. The full rollout of Deapp education is taking place in 2023 with the new alpha version of the app after years of feedback and development. Whilst Lee is not a healthcare professional, he strives to help improve type-1 diabetes education from a visual design and an academic perspective from his years of experience as a professional designer and higher education lecturer.
