After completing his degree in medicine at the Jagiellonian University in 1994 he took up the post of clinical assistant at the Department of Metabolic Diseases in Krakow, later on was appointed as adjunct, associate and full professor. From 1999-2001 he worked as a research fellow at Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School. His research encompasses two areas: genetics of monogenic forms of diabetes and modern technologies in diabetes treatment. He published in respected scientific journals including “Diabetes”, “Diabetes Care”, “Diabetologia”, “Nature Clinical Practice Neurology”, “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA” . Since 2014 Prof. Tomasz Klupa coordinates two chapters of the National Diabetes Guidelines published annually by Diabetes Poland (DP), he is the head of the Pump School Educational Initiative by DP. Recently Prof. Tomasz Klupa co-authored a consensus report by the American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes on the management of type 1 diabetes in adults. Current position: Professor, Head of the Center on Advanced Technologies in Diabetes, Department of Metabolic Diseases, Jagiellonian University, Krakow Poland, Board Member of Diabetes Poland, Board Member of Central European Diabetes Association, Regional Consultant in Diabetes for Lesser Poland.
