Dr. van der Linden is an Applied Mathematician by training and currently a Staff Data Scientist at Dexcom. With over 8 years of experience in analytics, data science and scientific computing, he has worked on solving ill-defined problems with data across a wide range of applications, including glucose monitoring, not-for-profit fundraising and reservoir engineering. In his current role at Dexcom, he specializes in population health studies and commercial analytics. An active and passionate member of the data science community, he also founded and led the Melbourne Datathon between 2015 and 2018. This hackathon for data science grew from 120 participants in 2015 to 1,000+ in the 2018 edition. Dr. van der Linden holds Bachelor of Science (2011) and Master of Science (2013) degrees in Applied Mathematics from The Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands and completed a PhD in Engineering (2018) at The University of Melbourne in Australia. For his work on the characterization of heat and fluid flow in porous media using machine learning and graph-theoretical techniques, he was awarded the University of Melbourne’s 2018 John Melvin Memorial Prize for Best PhD Thesis in Engineering & IT.
