Dr. Rhinehart is the Senior Medical Director of the Medtronic Diabetes Global Office of Clinical Research and Medical Science. Prior to that he was Chief Medical Officer at Glytec, an enterprise software company specializing in diabetes therapy management. Before his transition to industry in 2015 he was in clinical practice for 20 years serving for seven years as Program Director and Diabetologist at the Johnston Memorial Diabetes Care Center and as Physician Champion for his health system’s Inpatient Glycemic Control Initiative. Before his time at the Diabetes Care Center, he worked as a primary care physician in the outpatient, acute care, intensive care, and long-term care settings. Dr. Rhinehart received his medical degree from the University of Maryland and completed his residency at East Tennessee State University. Although trained in internal medicine, he was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology based on his expertise in the field of diabetology. He has served on the American Diabetes Association’s Professional Practice and Prevention Committees and as a member and past chair of their Primary Care Advisory Group. As a physician CDCES, he has served on the 2012 and 2017 National Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Standards workgroups.
