Karen studied Psychology at Las Villas University, Santa Clara, Cuba and graduated as Bachelor of Psychology in 2009. Then, she joined the research Group of Cognitive and Social Neurosciences at Cuban Center for Neuroscience (CNEURO) Cuba. She received her first MS degree in 2014 at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences and her second MS degree in 2016 at CNEURO. She was awarded a scholarship by the Fonds de Recherche du Québec (FRQS) supervised by Professor Natalie Phillips, Ph.D. at the Department of Psychology, Concordia University, Canada. Also, she has interacted with researchers at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI). In 2016, she obtained the position of Head of the project “Technologies for the management of brain aging” at the Department of Cognitive and Social Neurosciences, CNEURO.
