I completed my undergraduate studies in biology at Buenos Aires University, Argentina, and conducted my PhD at the same university (2005-2010), where I characterized a recently identified protein involved in the SUMOylation and hypoxia signaling pathways. Then I moved to ETHZ to learn how to apply systems biology tools, such as targeted proteomics, to characterize the cellular responses to protein misfolding (alpha-Synuclein, Amyloid-beta, Tau), in physiological and pathological contexts (Prof. Paola Picotti lab - ETHZ). In 2016 I moved to Prof. Roland Riek lab to develop novel tools of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), and since then I am senior scientist in the same lab. At the Riek lab we apply in-cell NMR to study alpha-Synuclein, Amyloid-beta, Tau and other amyloidogenic proteins involved in neurodegeneration.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH EZIO GIACOBINI, MD, PhD Ezio Giacobini, MD, PhD was from 1995 to 2020 a Professor associated with the Department of Internal Medicine, Rehabilitation and Geriatrics at the University of Geneva Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital Geneva. His major research interests are both in the pre-clinical and clinical development of drug therapy for Alzheimer’s disease. Together with Robert Becker, he has developed, preclinically and clinically, two new cholinesterase inhibitors (Metrifonate and Pentastigmine) and participated in the clinical development of E20-20 (Donepezil), Rivastigmine and Phenserine. He is the author of over 300 peer-reviewed publications in international journals in the field of pharmacology, psychiatry and neurology. He also authored books, book chapters and articles in the field of neuropharmacology of the cholinergic system with a special interest in the area of Alzheimer’s disease therapy and cholinesterase inhibitors. He was the founder and organizer of the international meeting Advances in Alzheimer’s Therapy from 1988 to 2018. He received in July 2002, the Life Time Achievement Award in Alzheimer’s Disease Research from the Alzheimer Association (USA) at the 8th International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease in Stockholm.

Alessandro Gialluisi holds a BSc in Biotechnologies (University of Bologna, 2007), and a MSc in Molecular Biology (University of Pisa, 2010). After spending a pre-doctoral research period at the Medical Genetics Unit of the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi hospital, University of Bologna (2010-2011), he started a PhD in the Language and Genetics Department, Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen, the Netherlands, working on the genetics of reading and language abilities, and being awarded a PhD in Science (Radboud University Nijmegen, 2015). He continued investigating learning-related skills in his first post-doc (2015-2016) in the Statistical Genetics group, Department of Translational Research in Psychiatry, Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, Munich, Germany. Then, he moved back to Italy to widen his spectrum of research interests to the molecular and genetic epidemiology of neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, at the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention, IRCCS Neuromed, Pozzilli, Italy. He successfully completed a residency program in Medical Statistics and Biometry (Sapienza University of Rome, 2020), through a research project on the development and analysis of biological aging markers based on machine learning algorithms.

My name is Andreas Giannisis, and I am from Greece. Currently, I am a 3rd year Ph.D. student at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, at Stockholm University, under the project: ‘‘Relevance of a peripheral apolipoprotein E linked phenotype to neurodegeneration’’, having Professor Henrietta Nielsen as my supervisor. I hold a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Department of Chemistry, at the University of Ioannina, Greece, and a master’s degree in Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology from the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, at Stockholm University, Sweden.

Tiago André Braga Gião has completed his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at the Universidade do Minho in 2017. After he obtained his master’s degree in Applied Biochemistry with a specialization in Biomedicine in 2019, in the same institution. His master’s thesis was held in Porto at Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S). In the Molecular Neurobiology group, he dedicated himself to studying the role of Transthyretin (TTR) in brain vasculature in both physiological and pathological conditions (Alzheimer's Disease). Considering the known TTR neuroprotective effects, he also investigated TTR as a therapeutic target in Alzheimer's Disease. In 2020 he enrolled in the doctoral program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the Universidade do Porto and continues to develop his work at i3S and he continue to study the role of TTR in the pathophysiology of AD.

Dr. Giliberto’s approach to Medicine, Neurology and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has always been dual: basic research and clinical practice. He has worked and collaborated with great scientists, such as Massimo Tabaton, George Perry, Mark Smith, Pierluigi Gambetti, Antonio Uccelli, Luciano D’Adamio and Peter Davies. The work with Dr. D’Adamio at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, lead to identify APP processing modulators, including ITMB2 (BRI2). At the Feinstein Institutes, Dr. Giliberto collaborates with a diverse range of excellent scientists, expanding the focus of his research to tau, microglia and the immune response, cell cycle and the treatment of tau pathology with engineered antibodies. Dr. Giliberto works with patients affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, providing clinical care and trials, helping them and their families to cope with the disruption that this disease brings to their lives. This dual role has allowed him to broaden his view of the disease, as the inspiration he receives from patients at every encounter is invaluable. Dr. Giliberto teaches clinical neurology to medical students, Neurology, Medicine and Psychiatry residents at Hofstra University and North Shore University Hospital, and trains MD/PhD and PhD students in the laboratory at the Feinstein Institutes.

Dr. Gim is a principal investigator of gimLAB (genome intelligence mining laboratory) at the Department of Biomedical Science, Chosun University, Republic of Korea. He is also directing the Big-data Research Unit of the Gwangju Alzheimer's and Related Dementias (GARD) cohort, a community-based longitudinal cohort (n > 14,000). He is majored interdisciplinary field of science (theoretical particle physics, biostatistics and bioinformatics) and his research interests in AD studies are mostly focused on AD risk prediction and early diagnosis of AD using multi-modal dataset for the primary intervention purpose.
