Memory Unit
Dr. Lleó is currently the director of the Memory Unit at Hospital Sant Pau, Barcelona (Spain). He completed his residency in Neurology in 2000 at the Hospital Sant Pau and his PhD thesis in genetics of Alzheimer’s disease at Hospital Clínic (Barcelona). From 2002-2004 he completed a Clinical Fellowship in Memory and Movement Disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). In 2005 he joined the Memory Unit at Hospital Sant Pau and in 2009 he became the director of the Unit. Dr. Lleó has more than 300 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals, such as Lancet Neurology, Nature Medicine, and Nat Rev Neurology among others. His main lines of research are the molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases and biomarkers. Dr. Lleó is co-author of a licensed patent on fluid markers for synaptopathies. His research in biomarkers is complemented with research in digital neuropathology. Dr. Lleó has set-up a combination of sophisticated microscopy techniques to quantitatively investigate synaptic damage in human brain. Dr. Lleó also serves in the editorial board of Neurology and Brain Communications.
