Dr. Schulz was in a combined BA-MD degree program at Boston University and stayed for an internship in internal medicine. He then moved to Baylor College of Medicine for a residency in neurology and a fellowship in cellular neurophysiology. He stayed as faculty and directed a basic science laboratory for 20 years examining the cellular mechanisms underlying learning and memory. At the same time, he developed a neuropsychiatry practice and is certified in Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology by the UCSN. Currently, at the McGovern Medical School of UT Health Houston, he is the Rick McCord Professor in Neurology, the Umphrey Family Professor of Neurodegenerative Disorders, the Director of the Memory Disorders and Dementia Clinic, and the Director of the Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology Fellowship. Dr. Schulz sees patients every day and researches better diagnostic tools for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs), investigates risk factors for them and mechanisms underlying their progression, and directs numerous treatment trials for AD and other NDDs.
