Session Description
Antimicrobial resistance in children: Reducing the burden through vaccination - Symposium Supported by MSDSession Description:Using pneumococcal and varicella vaccination as illustrative examples, this symposium will discuss the impact that vaccination can have on the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. Faculty will review the impact of antimicrobial resistance on morbidity and mortality among children and highlight opportunities through prevention by reducing the incidence of pneumococcal disease caused by serotypes that are associated with antimicrobial resistance, reducing inappropriate antibiotic use associated with varicella infection, and reducing opportunities for the acquisition of resistance. Presentations will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.
