Dr Áine Merwick is consultant neurologist / Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Cork University Hospital/University College Cork, Ireland. She is a member of Stroke Clinical Trial Network Ireland Management Group . She previously worked as a consultant neurologist with a special interest in vascular neurology at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London and held an honorary contract at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London She completed fellowship training in metabolic medicine, with a focus on inherited neuro-metabolic disorder and vascular neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology Neurosurgery, London following her neurology training in Ireland. She lectures on the University College London ( UCL) stroke degree, and is a graduate to the MSc degree program at Danube University Krems, Austria. Her research interest include TIA epidemiology, Risk prediction, and bio-markers.

Sandy Middleton is the Professor of Nursing and Director of the Nursing Research Institute at St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Australian Catholic University. She is a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Leadership Fellow with an interest in stroke and implementation research. She has been successful in obtaining 83 grants totalling over $85.5 million. She was the lead investigator on the landmark Quality in Acute Stroke Care (QASC) cluster trial demonstrating decreased death and dependency following implementation of nurse-initiated protocols to manage fever, hyperglycaemia and swallowing post-stroke, winning multiple national and international awards. These protocols are currently being translated into 64 hospitals in 17 European countries. Professor Middleton is a Ministerial appointment to the NHMRC Health Translation Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Directors for the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation and the Clinical Excellence Commission. She is Director of the Maridulu Budaryi Gumal Sydney Partnership for Health Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE) Implementation Science platform; Director of the Maridulu Budaryi Gumal Nursing and Midwifery Implementation Science Academy; and Chair of the Steering Committee of the Australian Stroke Clinical Registry.
