SVD is a major cause of stroke, dementia, cognitive impairment and loss of independence, but remains understudied, underrecognised and lacks effective treatments. Several national and international initiatives have, or are, addressing ways to improve detection, assessment and ultimately management of SVD. This talk will highlight some of those initiatives, why they are important, and directions for the future.
