Establishing Telestroke Services in LMIC: Experience and Challenges
Abstract
Abstract Body
Hyperacute stroke reperfusion treatment require implementation of a fast team network. Telestroke service allows intra and inter-hospital access to immediate consultation leading to effective and safe stroke treatment. In ASEAN and low-middle income (LMIC) countries the implementation of telestroke service has been slow uptake as it was an optional service prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The speaker will share the experience and challenges in establishing the telestroke service in LMIC setting which includes lack of staff, cost and billing system, lack of high-speed internet and lack of political will. However due to the recent policy change due to the global pandemic has led to the increasing interest to expand the telestroke treatment in this region. The implementation of regionalised telestroke network will lead to further improvement of care and result in cost effective benefits in this region.
