Canine parvovirus and canine distemper virus both cause life-threatening diseases and can affect dogs of all ages, with severe cases much more likely to occur in young puppies. Maternally-derived antibodies (MDA) provide protection during the first weeks of a puppy’s life– but high levels of MDA can interfere with the ability of vaccines to successfully immunize.
Over the years canine parvovirus vaccines have improved in their ability to overcome low and even moderate levels of MDA, meaning that older puppies are now better able to be protected, however until now successfully immunizing puppies with higher levels of MDA has remained a challenge. NOBIVAC Puppy DP PLUS is the first vaccine based on the latest CPV-2c subtype of canine parvovirus and is the first vaccine which is capable of reliably breaking through the high levels of parvovirus MDA present in puppies as young as four weeks old.
MSD Animal Health welcomes WSAVA Delegates to this symposium to learn more about this innovative new vaccine development and how it will set new standards in early puppy protection.
