Maria J. Corral received her DVM from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM, Spain) and completed a MSc in Veterinary Research at the UCM and her PhD in the Parasitic diseases at the Animal Health Department of UCM focused on in vitro and in vivo safety and efficacy evaluation of drug candidates for canine leishmaniasis. She continued her postdoctoral research in canine animal models of leishmaniasis after completing her PhD. During this period she completed a Post-Graduate programme in pharmaceutical medicine & medicines development sciences at the Free University of Brussels (Brussels). After her Postdoc she joined Zoetis Belgium SA as part of the clinical development team at the Veterinary Medicine Research Department (VMRD).
