Since 1997 Dr Cos has been a family doctor in Barcelona and member of the Diabetes Study Group in Primary Health Care (redGDPS, www.redgdps.org), as well as a member of the Institut Universitari d'Investigació en Atenció Primària (IDIAP) Jordi Gol, and a coordinator, since 2011, of one of the clinical trial research units of IDIAP Jordi Gol. He has been an Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Department of Medicine) since 2009. He was the Spanish representative in the European Research Network in General Medicine, within the framework of the WONCA Europe research group (EGPRN) from 2009 to 2015. Currently, Dr Cos participates in several international projects in the field of diabetes, MOSAIC and DISCOVER, and nationally in LadyDiab, DP-Transfers, CATRisc and OBINDIAB. He has participated in Phase IIIb clinical trials with dapagliflozin and lixisenatide and currently the VERIFY trial in Spain. Dr Cos is collaborating in several institutional projects for the Department of Health of Catalonia, guidelines for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and the Diabetes Expert Patient Program in Catalonia. Since 2009, Dr Cos works as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and for several years he has worked as a teacher in the Rising Stars programme organized by the International Diabetes Center, Minneapolis (USA). He has been the President of Primary Care Diabetes Europe since February 2017. He has recently participated as Head of the Early Diagnosis working group at the European Coalition For Diabetes (IDF Europe, EURADIA, FEND and PCDEurope). He is currently Associate Editor of the journal Primary Care Diabetes.
