Abstract

Objectives

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of Modecate, Aripiprazole and Quetiapine in treatment of positive and negative symptoms, cognition, motor activity and QEEG in psychotic adults.

Methods

Methods: Among psychotic adults who were candidate for treatment with Modecate, Aripiprazole or Quetiapine; 35 patients in each group (total 105) were selected. Baseline questionnaires of PANSS, MMSE, AIMS and QEEG were collected. Drugs were taken for 8 wks. PANSS, MMSE and AIMS questionnaires were refilled after 3 and 6 months; QEEG was retaken after 6 months.

Results

Results: Positive and negative symptoms were best treated by Modecate (p value<0.001). Quetiapine controlled negative symptoms better than Aripiprazole significantly, but they were similar in controlling positive symptoms. In General scale, Modecate was more effective than Aripiprazole but had no meaningful difference with Quetiapine. Quetiapine was better than Aripiprazole in general scale. In total PANSS Modecate was meaningfully the best drug and Quetiapine was better than Aripiprazole (p value<0.05). Modecate showed better effects in MMSE controlling rather than Aripiprazole and Quetiapine. Modecate had more side effects according to AIMS compared by two other drugs. More final QEEG needs to be taken and used in analytic comparison.

Conclusions

Conclusions: Modecate showed significantly better than Aripiprazole and Quetiapine in controlling positive and negative symptoms and total PANSS and MMSE. It was also better than Aripiprazole in PANSS general score, but it has more side effects according to AIMS.
