Session Description
THE QUALITY OF DIET: DO WE REALLY HAVE A SCIENCE-BASED DATA BANK? - Sponsored by Soremartec Italia S.R.L. Since the existing dietary guidelines are constantly challenged by the new scientific evidence the concept of a proper diet quality might appear significantly complex to food regulatory authorities, particularly when a consumer group such as children is considered. Therefore, this session aims to discuss the bases and the role of scientific evidence in nutrition research and will demonstrate how the dietary guidelines have been evolving over time. In addition, different perspectives will be taken into account: from the public health and consumers’ point of view. The necessity for the most recent scientific evidence in development and constant update of dietary guidelines will be analyzed in terms of trust determination from the consumers’ side. Finally, the session will bring clarity if we can assume the relevance of an available science-based data bank for the diet quality, especially for such a specific consumer group as children.
