Joakim Dillner (Sweden)

Joakim Dillner is professor in infectious disease epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet since 2009 and Scientific Director of the Karolinska University Laboratory since 2017. Since 1989 he has conducted HPV research in the areas of molecular biology, immunology and vaccinology, clinical virology and epidemiology. He is PI of major ongoing projects in HPV such as the Swedescreen randomized trial of HPV-screening (since 1997), biobank-and registry-based follow-up studies of HPV vaccination (since 1999), and the International Papillomavirus Reference Center (www.hpvcenter.se) since 2012. He is also center director of the Nordic Center of Excellence in health related eSciences NIASC (www.nordicehealth.se) and of the Swedish National Quality Registry of Cervical Cancer Prevention. He has led several large EU consortia on infections and cancer and has led Swedish National BioBanking programs during 2002-2015. By promoting the development and linkage of high quality key research infrastructures for cancer research such as cohorts, biobanks and registries, his research aims to develop more effective health services for cancer control. In his capacity as PI for the WHO HPV LabNet Global Reference Laboratory in Sweden, he has had ample experience in training HPV laboratories all over the globe in how to become proficient in HPV testing and typing.
