George R. Dodge; PhD is currently an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Associate Professor of Otorhinolaryngology; Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine; and Co-Director of the Translational Musculoskeletal Research Center at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center where he is and Senior Health Scientist. Trained at McGill University and Thomas Jefferson Medical School; he has over twenty five years of dedicated experience studying osteoarthritis; cartilage biology; matrix biochemistry; joint tissue regeneration and response to injury. With Professor Poole; he developed some of the first approaches to detecting collagen breakdown using epitope specific antibodies and went on to describe the identity of human perlecan as a unique proteoglycan and characterize its unique gene sequence and chromosomal location also identifying this unique proteoglycan as a constitutive of the synovial membrane. He has extensive experience utilizing large and small animal models of arthritis; scoliosis; and joint injury. The Dodge lab research encompasses a broad range of translational orthopaedic based research interests and collaborations which have implications in a variety of musculoskeletal-related clinical areas. A cross-disciplinary translationally-relevant approach continues to be the cornerstone of his research agenda.
