Welcome to the IBRO 2023 Interactive Programme

The IBRO Early Career Committee and the local Early Career Organizing Committee of the IBRO 2023 World Congress are collaborating to enable an all encompassing discussion on the challenges encountered by early career researchers in establishing their laboratories, and how to surmount some of these obstacles. The transition from postdoctoral training to setting up an independent laboratory is the favored academic career path. However, early career scientists often do not have the adequate training to advance to this next phase in their career. In addition to beginning and consolidating an independent line of research, early career scientists must hire personnel, obtain funding, teach, hire personnel and undertake administrative duties. In addition, this crucial phase often coincides with raising a family and caring responsibilities. How does one juggle professional and personal commitments during their formative years? The goal of this session is to bring together a critical pool of early career scientists across different geographies to highlight their journeys in the pursuit of academic independence and to build a support structure for the next generation of scientists.
