Professor David Pace is a Consultant Infectious Disease Paediatrician at Mater Dei Hospital in Malta and a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Malta. He graduated from medical school in 1999 and subsequently specialised in Paediatrics and in Paediatric Infectious Diseases in Malta and in Oxford. He obtained the Oxford Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases with distinction in 2010. In 2016, he completed a PhD in vaccinology looking at the vaccine prevention of meningococcal C disease in children, which was carried out at the University of Malta in collaboration with the University of Oxford. He served on the Education Committee of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) from 2011 – 2016. He coordinates the postgraduate training programmes in Paediatrics and Neonatology in Malta and is a member on the Maltese Advisory Committee on Immunisation Policy. He is widely published in infectious diseases and in meningococcal vaccines in children and has recently been listed within the top 2% of the most cited scientists worldwide. He appears regularly on the media educating parents on infectious diseases and the importance of vaccination, especially during the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
