David Greenberg is the Chairman of Pediatrics and the director of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Unit of the Soroka University Medical Center, Beer-Sheva, Israel. He is a Professor of Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. Prof. Greenberg obtained his MD degree in 1991 from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and was boarded in Pediatrics in 1996. From 1997 to 1999 he did a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital and University of British Columbia, Vancouver B.C. Canada. Upon his return he joined the department of Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Disease Unit at the Soroka University Medical Center as a pediatrician and consultant in Pediatrics ID. In addition, Prof. Greenberg acts as a pediatric infectious diseases consultant for the southern district of the Israel General Health Insurance. Prof. Greenberg is a member of the Israel National Vaccine and Infectious Disease Advisory Board for the Israel Ministry of Health. Prof. Greenberg served as chairman of the Israeli Pediatric Infectious Disease Society from 2014 to 2017, and as chairman of the Israel Clinical Pediatrics Society from 2007 to 2011. From 2007 to 2009, he served as the medical director of the renowned center for severely disabled young adults “ALEH Negev”. Prof. Greenberg is also active on an international level; He is currently a member of the WHO’s Pneumonia Vaccine Trial Investigators Group. He was a founder of the community-acquired pneumonia pediatric research initiative consortium (CAP-PRI). Prof. Greenberg was a board member of ESPID’s educational committee from 2012 and 2016. In addition, he is “Professor Onorific” of the Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania and an honorary member of the Romania Microbiology Society. Prof. Greenberg has a relationship with several large pharmaceutical companies such as MSD, GSK, Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, Abbvie as well as the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) either as a recipient of research grants, a scientific consultant, and/or a participant in scientific boards. Prof. Greenberg was elected to serve as a member of the scientific organizing committee of the Eurasian PneumoSurveillance Summit and has been among the organizers of a yearly conference in St. Petersburg Russia since 2017. Prof. Greenberg he received an honorary member of these organization. Prof. Greenberg collaborates with scientist in the folds of microbiology and infectious disease from St. Petersburg including teaching and bilateral visits in Russia and Israel. Prof. Greenberg has contributed over 200 peer-reviewed articles, review articles and book chapters both in local and international scientific publications. Prof. Greenberg is the founder and serves as medical director of several companies, such as Beyond Air Inc. and ENOX Biopharma and holds several patents in the field of diagnostics and treatment of infectious diseases. Prof. Greenberg’s research activities focus on the epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of respiratory infections and in particular of community-acquired pneumonia; pneumococcal vaccines and the spread of antibiotic-resistant pneumococci in the community; invasive infections including bacteremia and meningitis; viral respiratory infections and their interaction with bacterial infection in community-acquired pneumonia and the development of new strategies for the treatment and prevention of these infections.
