Waseem Qasim is NIHR Professor at the UCL Institute of Child Health and a consultant in Paediatric Immunology at Great Ormond Street hospital for children in London. He trained in Medicine and Paediatrics in Newcastle before PhD research at UCL, where he has combined clinical work in immunodeficiency and transplantation with cell/gene therapy research. He is leading research investigating genome editing tools including TALENs, CRISPR/Cas9 and base editors. Clinical applications are underway using T cell therapies expressing chimeric antigen receptors, including genome edited cells for the treatment of leukaemia.
