Depression, Anxiety and Satisfaction with life in Mothers of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - EPP0194

Abstract

Introduction

Practically no attention is paid to studying the psychological state of the mother and the corresponding help for her at a time when she is the most important member of the child's microsystem, therefore the mother of a child with ASD became the focus of our attention.

Objectives

The purpose of the following study was establishing connections between depression, satisfaction with life and anxiety in mothers of children with ASD, as well as comparing this indicators to mothers of children with typical development.

Methods

60 mothers of children with ASD were interviewed, Compiled anamnesis questionnaire, a questionnaires of life satisfaction (Diner),of Spielberger's anxiety2 subscales (personal and Social) , Becky's depression. (Adapted Georgian versions) were used .Statistics: Pearson correlation analysis.

Results

Negative correlation is revealed between depression and satisfaction with life.

T test analysis revealed that depression level does not differ in mothers of children with ASD and mothers of children with typical development.

Social anxiety level is higher in mothers of children with ASD, than in mothers of children with typical development. But there is no difference between personal anxiety levels. Mothers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have lower level of satisfaction with life than mothers of children with typical development.

Conclusions

This part of the study gives us inspiration for contributing in planning the right plan for psycho social care, which will be aimed at increasing psychological well being of mothers of children with ASD, which for their part will be reflected on the well-being of the child.
