Aldo Pietro Maggioni is Director of the Research Center of the Italian Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO) in Florence. He is a member of the coordinating center of the GISSI studies in collaboration with the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan. Medical degree in 1974 from the University of Milan School of Medicine, and residency in cardiology at the University of Padua (1975-1978). Clinical cardiologist at the General Hospital ‘G. Fornaroli’ and, later, at the General Hospital Fatebenefratelli, both in Milan. His research interests include clinical trial methodology, epidemiology/management of myocardial infarction and heart failure, appropriateness of use of resources in cardiovascular diseases. He has been Scientific Coordinator of the EURObservational Research program of the European Society of Cardiology. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the EuroHeart initiative. He served on steering committees, and DSMBs of more than 60 clinical trials on arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, secondary prevention, stroke, diabetes and heart failure. Aldo P Maggioni authored more than 800 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has been also included in the list of the highly cited researchers over the last 15 years (2003-2020) by Clarivate.
