Dr. Luis Jara was born in Peru in 1948 and is now naturalized Mexican. He received his MD degree from the Universidad Nacional “Federico Villareal”, Medical School “Hipólito Unanue” in Lima, Perú in 1975. He trained in Internal Medicine at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, School of Medicine, “San Fernando” from 1975 to 1978. Later in 1982 Dr. Jara was certified by the Mexican Board of Rheumatology. From 1990 to 1992 he took a leave of absence from his position to become a Research Fellow in Rheumatology at the University of South Florida and at the Louisiana State University, in New Orleans, LA. with Dr. Luis R. Espinoza, ACR Master. In 1992 he returned to Mexico once again where he obtained recognition by forming part of the Mexican Investigator System. In 2005 he achieved the highest level of the Mexican Investigation System: Senior Investigator up to this day. In 2009, he was bestowed the distinction of Master of the Mexican College of Rheumatology. In 2014 he was condecorated Master of American Rheumatology in Boston, MA, USA. And in 2020, Dr. Jara received the Master of Panamerican Rheumatology (PANLAR). In 2004 he was appointed as the Head of Research Division in the Hospital de Especialidades “Dr Antonio Fraga Mouret”. Since 2007 Dr. Jara held the position of Director of Education and Research at this hospital at the Centro Medico Nacional “La Raza”. He has been Professor of Post-Graduate Rheumatology at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) for 28 years. From September 2021 up to this date his actual position is Chief of the Rheumatolgy Division at the National Rehabilitation Institute "Luis Guillermo Ibarra Ibarra", Mexico City, Mexico. Dr. Jara has written numerous scientific papers, reviews, and book chapters on different subjects, including the role of hormones in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and other autoimmune diseases, pregnancy in SLE and the antiphospholipid syndrome and on accelerated atherosclerosis in autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Dr. Jara and his work group were invited to participate by Professor Yehuda Shoenfeld, ACR Master, to collaborate with his own experience on silicone implants and illegal use of oil adjuvants for cosmetic purposes in the special issue devoted to ASIA-Autoimmune Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants (Lupus Journal , 2012), and he continues working on ASIA Syndrome post COVID-19 vaccine up to this day.
