Jörg Distler currently holds a Heisenberg Professorship at the Department of Internal Medicine 3 and Institute for Clinical Immunology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. In addition, he is Head of the outpatient clinic at the Department of Internal Medicine 3. Professor Distler’s clinical focuses are connective tissue diseases and fibrotic diseases. His research focuses on tissue remodeling in inflammatory diseases. He is a Principal Investigator in numerous international clinical trials (investigator-initiated and industry sponsored). His work has a strong translational focus; preclinical work from his group has provided the scientific basis for several clinical trials in fibrotic diseases such as systemic sclerosis. Professor Distler has published more than 280 PubMed-listed articles, including over 200 original publications. He has contributed as a senior and corresponding author in journals such as Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation and PNAS.
