PhD in Computer Science in the Automation and Industrial Computing program from Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in 2002. I started my teaching and research career in 1995 at the UPV, being since 2017 Full Professor. I carry out my research at the University Institute of Automation and Industrial Computing. In 2004 I started my work in technology for diabetes and the artificial pancreas, having been the coordinator of 6 National Plan projects, 1 European project and 1 Excellence Project from Generalitat Valenciana in the area of the artificial pancreas. I currently lead a multidisciplinary team in collaboration with several hospitals in Spain. Since 2018 I have been a principal investigator at the diabetes excellence research center CIBERDEM. My main lines of work are the mathematical modeling of type 1 diabetes, methods for the characterization of intrapatient variability and glucose prediction in the face of uncertainty, control algorithms for the efficiency and safety of the artificial pancreas, both single hormone and dual hormone, and new technologies for pediatric diabetes education. I regularly participate as an expert on artificial pancreas in the Scientific Review Panel of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in the USA. AMIC Health CSO and co-founder.
