CERITD
Diabetes
Dr Sylvia Franc has been working for several years as hospital physician in the Department of Diabetes and Internal Medicine in the Centre Hospitalier Sud-Francilien in Corbeil, the reference hospital for diabetes in the south region of Paris. She was also involved in the creation of CERITD (The Centre of Study and Research on intensification of treatment of Diabetes), a non-profit structure for research on diabetes and health care for outpatients with insulin pump therapy. She is the Research Director of CERITD and is responsible with Dr Charpentier for the orientations of clinical research within the structure. One of her main axis of research is the modelisation of blood glucose levels in diabetes. She has been involved in several experimental studies in type 1 diabetic patients to validate algorithms for flexible intensive insulin-therapy and algorithms for insulin adjustments in case of physical activity. She conducted the DIABRASPORT study, to validate a proposal of adjustment of insulin treatment in case of physical exercise. She has also worked on the prediction of prandial excursions at meals in type 2 diabetic patients and is involved in the DESCENDANCE program: a program to predict T2 diabetes in the offsprings of patients with type 2 diabetes. She has also set up a study to rehabilitate physical activity as a treatment for type 2 diabetes as an alternative to insulin treatment. One of her other major subjects of interest is technologies in diabetes field and especially in telemedicine. She was one of the vice-president of the French Society of telemedicine (SFT- ANTEL) and has published several papers about telemedicine in diabetes care with the DIABEO system, a decision support system for patients with type 1 diabetes and she was also in charge of the national multicenter study to assess the benefit of DIABEO-T2, a similar system customized for patients with type 2 diabetes. She is involved in the DIABELOOP Project for the development of the French Artificial Pancreas [consortium between CERITD, DIABELOOP SA, a start-up from CERITD directed by Erik Huneker, CEA-Leti, branch of CEA-Atomic Energy Commission- concerned mainly with micro- and nanotechnologies, various University Hospitals in France], joined by CNRH-RA, and manages some sub-studies of the project. Since June 2014, Dr Sylvia Franc is the vice-president of the CERITD
Institut für Diabetes-Technologie, Forschungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH an der Universität Ulm
Scientific Operations
Dr. Guido Freckmann, MD, is Medical Director and General Manager of the “Institut für Diabetes-Technologie Forschungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH an der Universität Ulm” (IfDT), Ulm, Germany. The IfDT is an independent research organization specialized to diabetes technology. Dr. Freckmann is a general practitioner and diabetologist of the German Diabetes Association. As a study physician at the IfDT, he was principle investigator for different studies, about e.g. CGM systems, development of closed loop systems or insulin pumps and further diabetes technologies and cooperates with several industrial and non-industrial partners. His expertise in blood glucose monitoring systems (BGMS) contributed to the IfDT being accredited and internationally renowned as testing laboratory for BGMS following ISO 15197. Dr. Freckmann supports publication of all study results and is author of several scientific papers about BGMS or CGMS accuracy and further topics. In addition, he is member of the managing board of the diabetes technology working group (AGDT) and the commission for laboratory diagnostics (KLD) of the German Diabetes Association. He is member of the POCT section of the German Association of Clinical Chemistry. He’s also chairman of the working group on continuous glucose monitoring of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC).
