Prof. Thomas Danne is the Director of the Department of General Pediatrics Endocrinology/Diabetology & Clinical Research at the “AUF DER BULT” Hospital for Children and Adolescents, Hannover Medical School in Germany. Presently he is appointed as Chairman of the SWEET-registry and work-package leader of the INNODIA-project, a consortium to fight type 1 diabetes. He has served as President and Secretary-General of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD). Also, he is the Past-President of the German Diabetes Association (DDG) and the German Diabetes Aid (diabetesDE). Prof. Danne has published 280 peer-reviewed papers and has been the Deputy Editor of Pediatric Diabetes and is on the Editorial Board of several journals and books. He has been awarded from the German Diabetes Association, the Hungarian Diabetes Association and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).

Professor Christophe De Block, MD Department of Endocrinology-Diabetology & Metabolism, Antwerp University Hospital, Antwerp, Belgium Christophe De Block studied medicine at the University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium and graduated magna cum laude. He is Head of the Department of Endocrinology-Diabetology & Metabolism at Antwerp University Hospital, Full Professor at the University of Antwerp, and Former President of the Diabetes Liga Belgium. Prof. De Block’s main clinical and research interests are related to prediction and prevention of type 1 diabetes, autoimmune polyendocrine syndromes, and new treatment options for diabetes, including incretin-based therapies. His latest field of interest focusses on the application of continuous glucose monitoring, functional insulin therapy, and sensor-augmented pump therapy. Prof. De Block has received several scientific awards, including the Award of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium for experimental investigations on autoimmune diseases, the Young Investigator’s Award of the Belgian Endocrine Society in 2005, and the Novo Nordisk Award for Diabetes 2015–2016. He has published more than 150 papers in international medical journals. Prof. De Block is a member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society, the Belgian Diabetes Registry, and the Belgian Endocrine Society.

Ms. Jolien De Meulemeester obtained a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the KU Leuven (Belgium) in 2021. She then started a PhD at the department of Endocrinology, University Hospitals Leuven. Her PhD focuses on the use of hybrid closed-loop devices in people with type 1 diabetes, and is supervised by Prof. Pieter Gillard.

Stefano Del Prato is Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the School of Medicine, University of Pisa and Chief of the Section of Diabetes, University Hospital of Pisa, Italy. He graduated from the University of Padova, Italy and undertook postgraduate specialization in Endocrinology and Internal Medicine. He has been Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas, San Antonio, TX, USA. Professor Del Prato’s main research interests have always been the physiopathology and therapy of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. He is a member of many societies and associations including the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and the American Diabetes Association. He acts as referee for numerous journals and has served on the Editorial Boards of major scientific journals in the field of diabetes and metabolism. Professor Del Prato is past Vice-President of the EASD, past Chairman of the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD), past President and Honorary President of the Italian Society of Diabetology, and the current President of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. He also served as Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the World Diabetes Congress in Dubai, UAE, in 2011. He has published over 500 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and has been awarded several honors including the Prize of the Italian Society of Diabetology for outstanding scientific activity, the Honorary Professorship at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredya in Lima and the title of Commander of the Order of the Italian Republic.

Maurizio Delvecchio was born in Bari. Graduation in Medicine at University of Bari (Italy) in 2000 with a thesis about “Longitudinal evaluation of -pancreatic function in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in childhood”. In June 2002, he attended the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology Unit of the University “Life and Health” in Milan (Italy). Specialist doctor in Pediatrics (MD Paediatrics) in 2005 with a thesis about “Transitory – recurrent neonatal diabetes in an infant carrying a R201H/KCNJ11 mutation”. From April to October 2006, he attended the Pediatrics Unit of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Child Life and Health, Department of Reproductive and Developmental Sciences, University of Edinburgh (Scotland). In June 2009, PhD Degree in “Pediatric Sciences”, thesis about “Genetics of Endocrinopathies in Childhood and Adolescence” University of Bari (Italy). He joined the 2004 and 2010 ESPE Summer School and the 2014 ISPAD School for Physicians. Currently, he works as Physician at the “Giovanni XIII” Children’s Hospital in Bari (Italy). He is in charge of the Outpatient Clinic for Diabetes, with above 600 pediatric patients and about 70 newly diagnosed patients every year. Since the Specialty School, dr Delvecchio showed a special interest for diabetes mellitus, developing a great expertise in Technology for Diabetes. He is a member of the Italian Society for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescence Diabetes and reviewer of several Journals. He authored more than 100 papers indexed on PubMed, not only about diabetes mellitus.
