Marga Giménez obtained her medical degree in 2001 from University of Barcelona and her MD in Endocrinology at Hospital Clínic i Universitary (2002-2006). She also got her PhD degree in 2012 from the same University. She is current Head of the Diabetes Unit of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona since 2020 and Associate Professor of Medicine in the University of Barcelona. Prof. Giménez focused her research in; Effects of hypoglycemia on CVD risk in T1D and How technology can improve glucose control and CV prognosis in T1D patients. She has been PI/researcher in different research projects (3 MINECO) and industry trials, and made contributions in the field of hypoglycemia and its consequences in atherosclerosis and CV risk, advanced technology treatment in T1D and artificial pancreas. Her work was awarded with the National Award for Junior Clinical Research investigators in T1D in 2013. She is currently a Consultant in Diabetes and Head of Technology Research in T1D at the Diabetes Unit (Hospital Clínic), and member of CIBERDEM, IDIBAPS and esCAPE Diabetes Consortium. Dr. Giménez has published over 100 original articles in peer-reviewed Journals as the Diabetes Care, Diabetic Medicine, Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics and the Acta Diabetologica. She is a member of the working group of Technology and Diabetes for the Sociedad Española de Diabetes. She belongs to the Societat Catalana d’Endocrinologia, Societat Catalana de Diabetis, Sociedad Española de Endocrinología and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.
